WeatherHarvest 1.1.5 - It has Arrived!
seventhseal writes "After many weeks of development - the highly anticipated WeatherHarvest 1.1.5 is here! And have I added a bunch of new stuff! WeatherHarvest has quickly become the de-facto standard for PHPNuke. Other weather modules have begun to fall to side and fail to compare! Further, other site publishing communities are beginning to ask for their versions. PHPNuke gets it now!

Thanks to new technologies available from NOAA, weather for your site is more advanced than ever.

What's New?
  • New center block displaying the extended forecast for selected city. Includes short text for chance of precipitation.
  • Cleaned code in the original block - HTTP is the preferred and supported protocol. FTP is retired.
  • Fixed the flag for looping radar. If yes, then the link appears, if no then no link!
  • Fixed Now-Cast issue where a city may no have a related fips code - link should not be displayed!
  • Improved graphics for Extended Forecast
  • Fixed special character display for Marine Buoy Weather
  • Added the Marine Buoy block with user and site customization!
  • Digital Weather Graphics - this is the beginning of the Digital Forecast Center of WeatherHarvest. Pretty cool stuff coming. Have you clicked on the thumbnail of the continental US yet?
  • Added more cities!
    • South Africa
Finally, check out the FAQ and Forums for further support at IBDeeming! Installation Instructions Power users - Sorry - No upgrade this time! I know, I'm lazy, but I got so caught up in other stuff, I just couldn't get a clean upgrade.

Apply the rest of the code in it's respective location as with previous installs. Just to be SAFE! The zip file provided is based on a directory structure "/www/phpnuke7.0/...". This is how the development machine is setup. Steps to success:
  • BEFORE you move the code to your production site - you MUST edit the my_header.php file included with PHPNuke (in the includes directory) to get the looping radar to work correctly. Add the line included in the my_header.php file to your my_header.php file. After you have doen that, proceed.
  • Unzip and copy files to their correct locations in your PHPNuke site (WARNING!!! DO NOT COPY THE my_header.php FILE I HAVE INCLUDED!)
  • CHMOD the "modules/WeatherHarvest/cache" directory to 777
  • Apply the WeatherHarvest1-1-5.sql file AND WeatherHarvest1-1-5MORE.sql, now located in the /www/phpnuke7.0/sql directory. It is applied through the mySQL command line or through an admin tool such as phpMyAdmin. This file will wipe old databases, and create new ones.
  • IMPORTANT: Before activating your block and module, you must go through your admin panel and set up your defaults in the initialization table. All paths are based on on your PHPNuke install HOME directory. You must have a trailing '/' or you'll receive errors if they are entered wrong. i.e. - (modules/WeatherHarvest/cache/) The defaults may work just fine for you.
  • If you are a power user, you can set up a seperate cache path for radar images.
  • Note: Cache timeout is for cleanup and regeneration of data files. NOAA typically updates every 30 minutes unless a significant event is taking place.
  • Once you have successfully saved your initialization data, activate your block and module. You may place the module in your "links" block, as it has menu options for users.
    • You now have 3 blocks! A side block called WeatherHarvest, a marine block called WHBuoyObservation and a center block called WHExtendedForecast! So many possibilities!
  • At this time, you may want to set up your default site city. You perform this through the admin panel.
BUG Reports and Wish lists Let me know what's going on! Use the forum at www.ibdeeming.com to report all issues or make suggestions. Anyone who's worked with me in the past knows I'm pretty wide open! What's Next It's really up to you! How's that for service! I have created a pretty full-featured web based, Nuke based weather module. The addtional features or code clean-up will be slow coming...what more could there be! Just let me know your thoughts, and we'll see what we can do! Background WeatherHarvest was created to give PHPNuke sites exclusive connectivity to the latest in Weather technology from NOAA. How does it give us advantage? It's a true implementation supporting PHPNuke standards, it's not a hack! This module/block add-on is quickly becoming the de-facto standard in Weather delivery in the PHPNuke environment. Just check out the great reviews at www.ibdeeming.com! As new releases come available - more and more exciting features are added. This great module is sizeable to your needs. What does that mean? You can have/provide as much or as little weather to your users as you like. You can provide miniscule details or dedicate your site to following weather and weather related events around the world. The best part - it's free! THANKS! Thanks for using this "add-on" I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy making it! Grab you copy by clicking this line!"
