Is there a way to restrict/control the lenght of the names users pick, to prevent names that are too long from breaking side blocks ?

Find the following near the start of modules/Your_Account/index.php
Code:
    if (strlen($username) > 25) $stop = "<center>"._NICK2LONG."</center>";

Change the 25 for any desired value.
