Awesome, thanks for the reply. I'm still trying to get used to the format between all those single- and double-quotes. Along with the semi-colons and the brackets and curly brackets, my right-hand pinky has never had such a work-out.
In short when placing variables inside of a query line you should enclose them between single quotes, the formatting will vary depending on the variable type:
'$variable' or '".$variable['value']."'
