Well despite the fact that I disabled Anonymous commenting, and have Nuke 7.8 installed, I am getting those "smart" bots that register an account, verify it, and then proceed to comment like crazy... The problem is, their IP's are all different.
I got about 50 different IP's, different bots, different users that are doing it, and just can't ban each one individually anymore... Too exhasting.
I think a simple solution is, wherever there is a "comment" just have one of them little images that you need to verify the text in order to continue...
This would be most important on the following modules:
- News
- Surveys
And also maybe a little tutorial on how to add it in to other php files as well so I can add it to my POTD gallery as well.
It might be prudent to implement image verification for posting on forums too... These bots are getting pretty smart pretty fast, and even if there is image verification at REGISTRATION, some guy could register an account, then give the bot the username (after he himself activates the account) and then set the bot loose on spamming forums, etc.
RIGHT NOW however, I just need this fix for the News articles and their comments... That is the only thing the bots on my site are currently spamming.
