Depends...on the terms of service and whether or not u paid for it.
If the site was paid for and in the tos u dont see a sclause stating that they hold the right to retain all information on the server(which most would)
Then you can make a lawsuit if it was that big of a site and worth the time,
Also just for future reference...good idea to keep a FULL backup of ur site on your own pc.
If its free then frankly they probably got smart enough to state that in their tos that u have no rights what so ever
But nothing and i mean nothing can stop u from broadcasting your opinion of the host whereever some1 might look for hosts

I do have a backup but only of the database. For the rest of the site i'll have to start from scratch again.
However, my biggest concern is that they use the information for their own purposes.
About the lawsuit… I don’t know. Instead, I thought there was maybe some kind of a “big brother” on the net trying to help victims deal with these dishonest people.
Your last advice is a very good one, but i always tried to avoid it because I’m afraid of retaliation. Those mean people have significant knowledge of all the scripts. I’ afraid that they might come back as an HACKER.
you should never live in fear of hackers...its kinda what some of them want and to use that word..lets see
Hacker...there are 2 forms..one has limitations and the other does not...see some hackers are legit..and i personally feel this needs to be said so that u will understand that not all hackers are bad..some hack for information...to retain knowledge without paying for it..because they feel it should be free...now these are the type i refer to as not being bad..these ppl are just going with their beliefs and if its knowledge they seek then theirs nothing wrong with that...except that ppl work extremely hard to make stuff....then charge for it, then a couple of hackers comes in and steals it...yes its stealing..no matter what the purpose...but these are few and far between...these have no interest in destroying or hurting u in any way..For thie reason ull findmost of the time...its stated as malicious hacker...these are the ones looking to do damage..but these guys have limits. They can only use whats givin to them...store a backup of ur site on ur own system and uve set their limit...they can only do damage that can and will be undone.
So now ask urself...what am i afraid of...do u fear a mouse...yes it COULD get into all ur food....and fill it full of diseases....but im sure ur food is sealed and contained...and easily replaced by goin to the store...ur site is easily replaced by uploading it from ur pc...live not in fear..but know what ur up against...this should help u feel better bought things.
Now im not saying to talk b/s to em..this would bring more trouble then u need but retaliation is not somethin u should fear. ppl have worked there buts off to bring u the most upto date patches and things in an effort to further limit hackers ability to do damage...belive me when i say freedoms are earned by the sweat and blood of others...u have the right and freedom to express urself, Thanks to the ppl who blead and sweat in order to provide...u should know that and not fear them. limits hold as long as u know what ur up against...and this should let u know just what ur up against.

It took me a few days to come back to this site, because I'm still trying to reset up my site after hackers caused me a lot of damages. But as you said it, we have to learn to deal with them. ...and, I learned the hard way.
But, I don't make the same mistake twice. Next time, I'll be ready for them.
