PHP-NUKE

I have a clean, unmodified PHP-Nuke 7.9 base installed w/ bbtonuke v2.0.17. The information from the Nuke_Config table under Version shows nothing more than 7.9 so I don't believe that this has any patches applied after doing the original install via Fantastico De Luxe. This patch is the first thing that is being done to the install. All files from the patch were uploaded to the site, overwriting all original 7.9 installed files.
I have done this twice now with the same results both times. I used the Patching PHP-Nuke Post as reference to apply the 7.9v3.5 patch and I only get the above error after attempting to run the upgrade.php file. Yes, I modified the patched config.php file as required with my site and db info from the original config.php file.
I do not get as far as the bbtonuke updates since the site is not working at all. I also do not see the code listed below as mentioned in that link either.

Seems like 3rd times the charm... I got it to upgrade; I think, it still shows version 7.9 in the Nuke_Config table. How can I verify that the patch actually is installed?
