I have a Php Nuke 8.1 website. I have setup the forums but when I attempted to post a reply I received an error. Here is the error that I received
{ Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type

}

Does anyone have an idea of what this issue is and how to correct it?

Does you PHP's mail() function works?

You should try to use it to get rid of such error, i guess.

Go to Forum Admin -> General Admin -> Configuration

at the bottom of that page you'll find "Use SMTP Server for email" - Select No.

I cannot remember if that's the default option and may you have changed it to use a smtp server, but should worth a try if there is no other chance...

Edit: btw.. that error occur receiving reply for AUTH command, probably your smtp rejected the username you've specified

Edit2: most probably that smtp does not allow authentication at all..

BTW, i think you shouldn't post other people emails in public forums.. spam is a virus nowadays.
