Had this problem previously with an existing 7.3 site. Applied the latest patch, deleted and rebuilt the nuke_authors table from scratch, deleted cookies, and life is good.
I'm setting up another site starting with 7.5. Installed, applied the latest patch, setup the MySQL DB. The site is up and running. I can register and login as a regular user. However, when I create a new God user, I can't login to the Control Panel. The login screen just reappears. I've deleted and recreated the God user/password several times, so I'm pretty sure I've got the right login. Troubleshooting tips? Any way for me to generate some debug data so I know where to start looking?
I'm having the same problem on a site I just set up with 7.9 and 7.9 patched 3.2B. I've cleared my cookies, I tried the Users Can't Login fix. Any ideas?

This is no longer a problem for me, as I moved to a different host with the same installation and it began working with no problems. Perhaps my former (free) host was set up poorly or didn't allow certain things. *shrug* No worries now, though. Thanks for the attempt at help.
I am having the same issues with a clean install of 7.8 worked just fine with 7.6 so I know its not a free server issue... any ideas????? User name is alphanumeric and 9 characters long.. still going thru the rest of the forums to see if I can find a fix...
Update, I have also tried something I did find in the forums but it didn't work, I have cleared my cookies deleted the GOD acct in PHPMYADMIN and recreated it.. still loops back to sign on page. Also if I try and sign into my normal acct I get a Login Incorrect! Please Try Again... message checked database and Both god acct and my normal user acct are correct.
