Hello,

My site was designed by a friend and he is too busy to upgrade it for me at the moment. I am new to php-nuke and only been using phpBB for about 5 months prior to that.

Ok.. now to the point. I am currently seeing this message:
"The latest available version is phpBB 2.0.22.You are running phpBB 2.0.17."

I understand that I have to upgrade in steps.. what I don't know is.. how do I find out what Nuke version I am running. Nuke 6, 7, 8 etc.

The phpNuke version is in the nuke_config table. Use phpMyAdmin to view it

If you need to upgrade the forums, you need the BBToNuke packages from this site. Overwrite the files with the newer ones, run the upgrade script. Also note that these packages are not cumulative, you will have to install each one sequentially.

Ok.. I went into nuke_config.

It is a little unclear but I clicked on Version_Num and all it says is:

Rows Version_Num
1 7.8

It doesn't SAY that it's the Nuke Ver# but I am assuming it is...

So then it should be php-nuke 7.8.

So if this is correct I need to upgrade php-nuke from 7.8 to 7.9 then to 8.0.

Also, it indicates I'm on phpBB 2.0.17 on the reminder, but says I'm using phpBB 2.0.7 by Tom Nitzschner.

So do I need to upgrade from 2.0.7 - 2.0.22 or from 2.0.17 - 2.0.22?

Correct, your phpNuke version is 7.8. You don't need to upgrade your phpNuke version though.. in fact, I recommend against it. The newest versions are buggy, untested junk code.

Rather, make sure you are using the latest Patched 3.3 files from this site, for your version of phpNuke.

The correct BBToNuke version is 2.0.17. The 2.0.7 is erroneously hard-coded into your theme.
Go from 2.0.17 to 2.0.22

Well the Patched version is designed for use with the Nuke Patched files. However, I've used the Nuke Core one just fine.

The intention is to use the Patched version when using the Nuke Patched files. Use the Nuke Core version when you are using the original phpNuke files.

Thanks for that. What is the patched for though? Is it like an upgrade to 7.8, but still the same version number? What is being patched and why?

The Patched files fix many bugs and errors with phpNuke. If you are not using it, you are not secure. Many addons also require the Patched files, Nuke Sentinel for one

Thank you so much for your help. It looks like I have 7.8 with patched 3.1. Can I just overwrite 3.3 right over that after editing config.php?
